4月29日 Depression sets in admist the darkness of our loss...!As I write this.... the only feeling that surrounds me is a feeling of depression, depression and more depression. So much of hope was built up around this entire day where we would win the world cup once again, and regain the glory of 1996, which now seems so far away, it seems like a distant dream!
From the moment we lost the toss, I felt a tremor go through my body, cos I knew it spelt disaster, if the Aussies took first lease of a pitch that looked so good for batting, and with the sun out as well, things looked very dismal. However, I still had hope, for 2 reasons: [1] Mahela seemed ok even with batting 2nd, and [2] if Vaas gets swing from the early morning conditions, we could rip their top order apart. Alas, I think Mahela in his heart of hearts truly wished he could have batted first, and Vaas didn't get any swing, nor did Malinga, and that was the start of our downfall. From the time Gilly started smashing us like a exhibition buffet match, it was just ominious signs right throughout, and my last hope rested in Murali and our spinners getting some quick wickets to stem the flow of runs, but that too never transpired, and in the end, the aussies did what they had to, they neutralized our STRENGTH which was our bowling, and made sure they were in safe waters by posting 288-4 by the end of 38 overs.
Thereafter, it was just forelorn hope that we could make a fist out of it, and Tharanga started off well by smashing the first ball of Bracken for a four. And Sanath and Kumar had their own set of fireworks by getting us in a position to challenge them. While fireworks happened at Barbados, fireworks happened here as well in the nite sky as the terrorists attacked key points in the city and due to that, plunged the whole country into darkness as well. If things couldn't get any worse, Rain hit barbados again, and the target was revised, and with the departure of Sanath and Kumar, Mahela Jaywardene and Chamara Silva decided to floor the accelorator, but by doing so, they got dismissed, and with that it was the end of all hopes, dreams and happiness of every sri lankan living across the world.
This was our last chance of ever winning the world cup...... we were so close, yet so far....... I don't think depression could any worse.... I call myself SL Cricket's no.1 fan.... and I know that no matter what happens, I will remain depressed that we couldn't win..... but however, I am so proud of our guys for proving to the world, that we are no push overs, and even though Australia is no.1 now.... we are no.2 and a very CLOSE no.2 that can beat the whole world on their day! ....... 4月28日 ICC World Cup 2007 Finals at Barbados!!!!!THE BATTLE OF THE GIANTS!! BEST WISHES TO MAHELA AND THE REST OF OUR TEAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MAKE US PROUD BY WINNING THE WORLD CUP AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 3月26日 Marvan Atapattu's return will be much awaited!Cricket is life, Cricket is Passion, Cricket is excitement, and for some of us (including myself n my best pals Kanchana, and also Asim) Cricket is everything! I used to write many blogs about how our fav SL Cricket team thrashed most of their oppositions out of sight with some sheer strong hitting by our fav Sanath Jayasuriya (who has more than 10,400 runs in ODI Cricket, and with a strike rate of 88.93) and some skillful and masterful bowling by the whiz's Chaminda Vaas and Muthaih Muralitharan (who both put together have a tally of 1000 wickets in ODI Cricket).
In 1996, we were masters of the trade, after winning the ICC World Cup by beating Australia in the finals by 7 wiickets. In 2006, 10 years down the line.... we are almost back to being minnows of the trade, as stats show in recent times, we have played 28 ODI's and we have lost 19 of those, and had 2 no results, and won only 7 matches! And if that was bad enough, in the recent home series against Pakistan, we lost to them 2-0, and for the first time in two decades, we have failed to win a single match in a series played at home!
So what exactly is the problem? Lets take a look at 5 main factors:
[1] The Captaincy? ........ My answer to that is a BIG NOOO! Marvan Atapattu is one of the best captains we have ever had! His attitude, his agressiveness, and the way he approaches the game is so good! I think he's the only hope we have to bringing our Cricket back to normalcy!
[2] The Coach? ........ Tom Moody, Australian.... well I seriously have no comment about him! As I don't think he's done our team anything extraordinarily good, other than of course taking us to the VB Series finals in Australia, apart from that, he's not proved himself much!
[3] The Support Staff? ...... Here again, another BIG NOOO! cos right now I tink have the best support staff in the form of a good fielding coach, bowling coach, physio, asst physio, comp analyst, and even a psychiatrist! Most of them from Australia as well.
[4] The Players Themselves? ...... Well, there have been rumours of internal rifts in the team due to the appointng of Chaminda Vaas as Vice Captain. However, I am sure thats all settled now, as the ever famous Mahela as been re-appointed as Vice Captain. One thing for sure though, Jehan Mubarak has no place in the SL team!!! God knows, why they persist with such an untalented fool.
[5] The Interim Administration? ..... Forver the word 'interim' has been a part of Cricket, so as one administration starts something good, when they get fired, the other administration stops everything that was started, and ruins it all! As the saying goes, when there's a problem, you should always go to the 'root cause', and in my opinion, the cricket admnistration must hold an AGM soon and get a permament body to govern our cricket!
Its very sad indeed, as our country is known for its Cricket, and its natural beauty. My fellow blog friends Meghna, Salil and even Ameeta who hail from India, would surely be proud of their Cricket team's gradual resurgence as a team thats got everything going well for them, and a team of power!
So lets hope that once our captain Marvan Atapattu is back, he can develop our team first to win the 2006 ICC Mini World Cup in October this year, and we can re-gain some lost prestige, and at least get ourselves up from our current abysmal ranking of no.7 in the World Cricket Rankings.
1月3日 Fading Fortunes...Its been quite awhile since I have written a blog related to Cricket. It was very evident to me that there were only probably just three people reading the cricket blogs and really enjoying them. The three people being Kanchana, Sanduni and myself the writer of the blogs. Therefore I reduced my ratio of cricket blogs, and also since our guys haven't been playing well at all, there was nothing to even write about!
I decided to write this blog, cos well last nite (actually morning) I was awake and online with my best friend Kanchana and we were following every bit of the game from the 1st session, when our guys were batting. It was immense fun, and it was so cool to see our guys batting properly for once!!! Tharanga getting a century and Marvan getting a well timed half century were the highlights of the batting, and we managed to notch up 255/7 off our 50 overs, which I also felt was a par score and a score that could be defended, if we bowled well. However, NZ had other ideas (as they always do) and Lou Vincent put our guys on the backfoot since the start (I tink he became a man ever since he got 171 against Zimbabwe) and there on, it was a fighting game for our guys, who I must say played much better than in recent times, but ended up tamely losing again, as NZ beat us by 5 wickets and 12 balls to spare! Nathan Astle once again showing his class, even in the absence of his opening parter Stephen Fleming (who is ill at the moment).
So we have lost aganist India badly, both in the ODI series and Test Series, and now we NZ has sealed this ODI series too..... and with 2 more matches to go, and then a ODI triangular series in Australia featuring AUS, SA and SL.... where are we headed? We were once the No. 2 in the world.... now suddenly we are No.7 and falling even further downhill with each defeat..... what has happened to our motivation? the hunger to win? ....... we seem to be playing as we dun have any sort of pride.... or even dedication.....
Its so sad really..... cos its the supporters like us that I tink suffer the most.... cos I dunno why our guys are not lifting their game up..... we have the ability to be the best in the world, the talent is also there.... but its just a matter of putting it all together.....
And finally the question lies, in the coming future , will we again, ever be like the way we were in 1996?.... As right now, we are only a shadow of what we were in the years gone by....
![]() 10月10日 Super Australia win ICC Super Series 3-0!!!
Ok.... So the stage was set..... Everyone was ready..... Everyone was eagerly waiting..... to see yet another downfall this weekend at the Telstra Dome, Melbourne of the "once mighty" Australians, as they had been aptly termed after their narrow 2-1 loss to England in the recently concluded Ashes. The old adage goes "Cricket is a funny game", and once again the old adage seems to ring true! After all the huge media hype, articles appearing in the papers saying stuff like: "Aussies are the Under-Dogs", "No confidence in Aussies", "Low crowd turn out, and Low Ticket Sales", "World XI ready to thrash Australia"... etc etc.... the Australian cricket team slapped everyone in their face, including their supporters who booed them onto the field during the 1st ODI, and turned out in small numbers... by virtually HUMLIATING and THRASHING the cream of players assembled together in one team, aptly termed 'ICC WORLD XI'.
No matter what anyone says, one thing I can say for certain is .... The 3 ODI's were TOTALLY one sided! Every game belonged to the mighty Aussies since the 1st ball was bowled. Before dweliing into the performances of the World XI players, I would like to say that the Aussies lead by Ricky Ponting proved to the entire world, that even when the going is tough, they can thrash THE WORLD, because as a team they gel together so well, plus adding to that, playing in their own backyard, and having a team filled with every player wanting to prove they were playing for a purpose, and playing for their country.... they were simply unstoppable! My congrats goes out to Adam Gilchrist for winning Man of the Series, as he simply tore apart our World XI team without a single worry! Other stand outs to be mentioned are Shane Watson and even Brett Lee (who's awesome always)
Now coming to the performances of WORLD XI, first and foremost, there's nothing to write about! As the performances were SIMPLY PATHETIC! Kumar Sangakkara scored 61, 63 and 13 in the 3 ODI's and Murali got 2, 1, 2 wickets in the 3 ODI's and had the best Econ. Rate. Those were the ONLY plus points in the World XI performance, and Kanchana, if ur reading this, I'm sure ur proud to hear that our guys performed well, cos I am proud of them too!! But Sangakkara cannot win a match alone, specially in a team where he's surrounded by the best of the best! Brian Lara's and Jaques Kallis's performances were so bad, I switched off the TV when I saw them get dismissed!!! I can't understand why they come for these matches, if they don't even give a damn about the team performance! Brian Lara scored 2 ducks and 6 runs for the entire tournament, and Kallis was not better by a big margin. Rahul Dravid seemed to try hard, but by the time he came to bat, it was invariably all over.
I don't seem to understand the thought process of the selectors, as I just can't seem to understand how players such as Chaminda Vaas, Stephen Fleming, Sanath Jayasuriya and Inzaman Ul Haq were left out from a WORLD XI ODI team!!! In my opinion - Makhaya Nitini, Kevin Peiterson don't have a place in a WORLD XI team!
Mark Nicholas his commentary stint said "I don't believe all the rumours about Brian Lara being here for the Beer and not the game" .... however, he said that before Brian Lara came to bat in the next over.... and got out for a duck off the 1st ball he faced!! 9月24日 SL teach BAN how to play Test Cricket: Win 2-0
Well I know my usual blogs and the speed of updating my space has once again drastically reduced, and thats not a very good sign, and Im sorry to all my frequent Space visitors, but in recent times, I have been busy with all the projects in uni, so please excuse my 'in-frequent' blogging till December this year.
So coming to the core subject of the blog, well yup is Cricket again!!! haha.... and its dedicated to my nice buddy Kanchana. I know she's one main person who loves my Cricket Blogs, so I dedicate this to her. Ok, so our guys have easily thrashed Bangladesh in the 2 Test Bank Alfalah Series, and they did it even without raising a sweat actually, and it was all too easy! I just can't seem to see why Bangladesh never learns from their mistakes, they time and time again repeat the faults they made previously. Well Im not complaining, cos as long as they make the mistakes, we keep captializing and get into easy winning positions. From the 1st Test Match, on our side, I should say the negatives were the absoloutely pathetic and slow batting display by our guys! I mean we bowled really well and reduced them to 187 All Out, but then we batted ever slowly and struggled to reach 390-9 Declared!! Now thats really unaccaptable, when playing against a nation like Bangladesh, thats at the bottom of the Test Ranking Table. However, we won that game by an Innings and 88 Runs, so the end result was pleasing, but I feel when batting against such opposition, a minimum score should be 500 runs, and then win by getting them out twice, without needing to bat again. Looking at the 2nd Test Match, I feel we certianly put that problem right to an extent, by getting 449-7 at Stumps on Day 1, after also being in deep trouble at 60-4 when the early morning swing gave the bangladeshi opening bowlers the wickets of our top 4 batsman. We ended up getting 457-9 Declared, and again winning by an Innings and 68 runs, so it was certainly a pleasing 2-Nill series white wash of Bangladesh.
The positives of course was the Bowling of Dilhara and Murali in both the Test Matches, and seeing Murali back with full power and utlizing the Doosra to the maximum and making the opposition look totally lost with no answer to his bowling! Murali did the damage, and Dilhara just cleaned up the Rest with some accurate Pace Bowling. Batting wise, I felt Sanath missed out on 2 golden opportunities to thrash a 3rd string bowling attack of the bottom of the rank test team. 2 Centuries were easily on the cards for him... and I think he's missed out big time. Marvan of course, well he was good as always, but not upto his best. Sangakkara just didn't seem to care about the opposition and tried to be too smart and got himself out to lazy strokes. Thilan and Dilshan capitalized, and I think Dilshan's innings was long over due. Congrats to him for winning Man of the Series.
So now we go to India, for 7 ODI's and 3 Test Matches.... I hope we thrash them to pieces, and make them run back into their houses.... because the humiliation they have brought upon Murali, and accusing him of something he never did.... shows how scared they are! Sanath and the rest have to get together and give them a thrashing they'll never forget.... we should do what pakistan did to them..... beat them in their own backyard! 9月5日 SL Inflict 3-0 Whitewash of Bangladesh
So within the space of just a few weeks, our guys have done it again!!! Yup, this time its not India, its the Bangladeshi's who have been easily thrashed 3-0 in the Bank Alfalah ODI Series concluded this evening at the R.Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. I'm really proud of my fav SL Cricket Team, but just to view my thoughts of this 3 match series, I wish to say that it was very evident that Bangladesh have lost any fighting spirit whatsoever that they had while they beat Australia in a ODI match in the NatWest Series, very recently. The Bangladesh team that played against us here, seemed a different lot all together, No sense of direction, No winning spirit, No hunger to win, No motivation, and simply here prolly just to sight see and tour the country and not to really play any sort of competive cricket! That's extremely sad and dissapointing, and even though I'm glad we beat them 3-0, I feel there should have been more fight shown by the bangladeshi's and they should have given our guys a lil more to fight for. On the positives for our team, I think Upul Tharanga finally cashed in and batted beautifully in the Series, scoring a half century and a century and also bagging the Man of the Series award. Vaas bowled with accuracy, but lacked his usual venom, and Murali too didn't seem too concerned about bowling at his best, and well with the way the bangladeshi's were floundering around with just the off spin of TM Dilshan, I don't blame Murali for taking things lightly! Sanath batted well, but I think he could have cashed in even more, and easily gotten 2 half centurys and not gotten out on scores of 40, and 45. The rest all chipped in, and Marvan as usual leading the way by thrashing Bangladesh in the 2nd game, by getting 54 in just 43 balls, and Avishka wrapping things up with a cracking Innings of 52 from 51 Balls.
All in all, winning 3-0 was very important, but I feel this series lacked any sort of interest, as it was totally one sided since the 1st ball was bowled in the 1st game, and the fact that Ranil Abeynaike was commenting on the length of the grass and the moisture needed to grow proper grass, and Robin Jackman was teaching the viewers about the proper cricketing terms for fielders, prolly just sums up the entire story! 8月19日 Asian Unity - A Treat to Watch! As the Afro Asian Cup 2005 kicked off with the 1st of the 3 ODI's being played at Supersport Park, Centurion in grand style yesterday afternoon, it certainly was the beginning of not only exciting cricket as the match certainly turned out to be a cliffhanger right till the end, but also it brought about a lot of happiness to every person watching the match. Having these types of matches have become a more common occurance specially this year, as many fund raising charity games were organized for the relief for the people who were affected by the Tsunami. However, as a huge fan of the Asian XI cricket team, I felt that upto now, I never had the impression that they were giving their 100% when they played these games, and almost always, the World XI beat us, and in the 3 match series against NZ, they beat us 2-1, even with Muralitharan and Warne playing for the Rest of the World Team.
Yesterday's game started with the sad news of Sanath Jayasuriya, Chaminda Vaas being unable to play due to injury, also with Rahul Dravid pulling out, along with Irfan Pathan also out, the Asian XI side was weakened by a huge margin, and certainly gave the advantage over to the African XI side. However, Inzamam Ul Haq from the start of the match, even from the start of the toss, where he called correctly, and won it and sent the African side to bat, and had them tottering at 56-5, and then getting them all out for 198, he proved that his "santa clause" look and the lazy look he had on his face was by no means any indication of his true mind set, as he had come out there to win the game for his team, and lead his team well! From the time Shoaib Akhthar was bowling with tremendous venom and getting cheered on by Zaheer Khan (his arch rival from the indian cricket team), to Sangakkara cheering on Anil Kumble saying "Good bowling Anil, Superb Anil", and to the point where Shoaib Ahkthar bowled 2 deadly beamers that almost tore Dale Steyn into 2 pieces, which totally was regretting by Shoaib and Virender Shewag calming Shoaib down, and well Anil Kumble and Murali got on, was signs of a totally united team, who otherwise would have been bickering and shouting sweet profanities at each other if not for them being together as one team today!
Unity wise, the Asian XI were together in good times and in bad.... when the match got under fully, Sangakkara was batting almost at his best ever, and held the innings together for as long as he could, before he unfortunately got bowled from an inside edge and exited with the score at a precarious 96-5. Abdul Razzaq and Anil Kumble shared a vital 7th wicket partnership of more than 60 runs to get us closer to the target of 199. However, even as the wickets fell, every batsman who came, played as if he was playing for his own country, and when Shoaib hammered a sixer, and Zaheer hugged him, that was a moment to remember!
We lost the match by 2 runs...... but we have 2 more games to come back strongly..... but as much as the crowd from asia all stuck together n cheered together, the team too stuck together till the end..... proving that unity can always be acheived, and all that's needed is an open mind.... or as it was in this case, all that was needed was for all 11 players to play as one - and that one being - ASIA!
8月3日 Showing Great Strength of CharacterDuring what turned out to be an Intense nerve wracking contest between Sri lanka and India that took place today at the Dambulla International Stadium, my bro told me some very interesting words, he said that "Its not whether you win or lose, its how you stand up and show a great strength of character"!!! I really think truer words were never spoken.
At 94-6, chasing a daunting task of getting 221 Runs in Total, we were truly dead and buried. There was no light at the end of the tunnel, so much so that even Ian Healy, the most optimistic of all commentators in the Ten Sports Commentray Panel said that it would take something special from that point onwards to win the game. As this time, we didn't even have the luxury of our dashing opener Sanath Jayasuriya coming at no.6 to come and turn the game our way like he did last time around.
So Mahela Jayawardene, having had 19 previous ODI innings without even scoring a half century, finally took the bull by the horn, and played ever so calmly and sensibly, and started very slowly, batting for almost 50 balls, before hitting a boundary. Together with Upul Chandana, he calmly started to work away the singles, even admist the absolutely wonderful attacking captaincy by Rahul Dravid, India's newest and probably best captain in the upcoming future. Mahela showed that admist the biggest ever pressure, he could face the bowlers with a lot courage and ultimately towards the end maul them and make them look very in-effcient!!!!
Mahela ended up getting 94* together with Upul Chandana 45* forged a match winning and most courageous 131 run partnership for the 7th wicket to give us victory by 3 wickets and take us into the finals!!!!!!
Thanks Mahela, we certainly owe u a lot for saving our team from a certain defeat!!!!!! 7月28日 Sangakkara proves his Worth! It was very nice to see the big response earlier to my cricket blog which was about the 1st test match between our guys and West Indies. I know that cricket is not the most popular topic among most of my fellow blog pals, except of course Chris, Mannu, Remy, Arvind, and of course Kanchana who are my fellow CRAZY cricket fans like me, and of course Shyan as well to an extent.
Coming out of the 1st Test match with a rather slightly dodgy yet comprehensive 6 wicket win over a depleted West Indian side, one felt that this match might just spur our guys on to really use the long handle to the maximum and mete out some good punishment towards the fragile 3rd string west indian bowling line up. However, the west indians bowlers showed their courage and worth, during day 1 as they bundled us out fora meager 150 Runs!! Again with none of the top order contributing... it was a bad batting display! But again, Vaas came to the party and grabbed 3 quick wickets early on and left West Indies reeling at 13-3 at the close of Day 1, and then rain interweined, and only 25 overs were bowled, and at the end of Day 2, Murali came into action and put them further into a spin and left them reeling at 35-5!!! Finally, they ended up reaching 148, just 2 runs behind our score, and when our guys started their 2nd Innings, the true fireworks began!!! Marvan unfortunately did not perform to his potential during this series, (im sad, cos im a huge fan of Marvan) but Kumar Sangakkara once again proved that he's world class performer as he scored a quick fire and brilliant knock of 157 not out on his home ground!!! He pulled, Cut, hooked and drove all the west indian bowlers down to their knees, and made them almost beg for mercy, as he waz in full flow!!!! nothing could stop his onslaught. It was not slogging... it was pure and clean batting.... Sangakkara style!!! what a treat to watch!!! his knock gave our team a lead of 375 runs!!!! and that was more than enough for Murali to clean them up by grabbing 8 wickets in da final innings of west indies, and sealing a great series win!!!!
Well thats the end of the Test Series..... now its going to be the IOC Cup 2005 which features Sri Lanka, West Indies and India. Best of luck to our guys for that series!!! Hope we can win yet another trophy to add to our collection!!!
Best moments from this 2nd and Final Test match at Asgiriya
* Vaas's brillant spell during the evening, and the close of the 1st day at Asgiriya! His quick 3 wickets, brought us right back into the game!
* Lasith Malinga's aggressive bowling tactics!!! Malinga's always a treat to watch...he's got a great potential!
* Sangakkara's brilliant knock in the 2nd Innings!! The way he treated Tino Best was really cool.... he punished every bowler who came his way, dealt with them by delieverinf more than 20 boundaries!!
* Murali's 8 wicket haul at the end of the match..... which virtually sealed the fate of the West Indies, and also would have sent shivers down the Indian's spines..... as they are up next to face him!!!
7月18日 Getting into Winning WaysAfter almost a lapse of around 6 months, I am writing a cricket based blog. So all my fellow pals who are non-cricket fans, please bear with me, because Cricket is a huge part of my life, and umm, I think blogging about it certainly makes me feel much better too. This blog is dedicated to Kanchana, cos she umm.... motivated me to write a blog about the match we won. (Yea Jani, u got a sis who's as crazy about cricket as I am). And Arvind, if u give me da Trackback URL of ur blog about our win, I can trackback urs to mine.
Coming to the essense of the blog, after alomost a huge break of around 7 months (excluding da Tsunami Appeal games and da 2 Test series in NZ) our guys have started a long and hectic schedule for one whole year, starting with this game, the 150th Test match that was just recently concluded which saw our guys beat a 2nd string West Indian side by 6 wickets in a game that was dominated by them during the entire 1st Innings (which is kinda dissapointing by our standards). However, with some efficient batting by Vaas (49) and some "Pol-Addi" shots by Murali (38) we saved our faces in the 1st Innings and only had a deficit of around 70 runs. It was in the 2nd Innings that the advantage "swinged" our way, thanks to some excellent bowling in da late evening session by Vaas, where he ripped through the top order leaving the West Indies at 11-3 (2nd Innings) at the close of play of the 2nd Day! The next morning he continued to tear into them, and left them at 36-5, and finally Muralitharan finished the innings off with a match bag of 6 wickets in da 2nd Inn, and a 1 wicket in da 1st Inn! To add the icing to the cake, Sanath and Marvan decided to smash every ball they could to the boundary while they had to chase 171 in the 2nd Inn (Prolly Sanath had to catch an afternoon train back to Matara). However, their bashing didn't last too long as they were both dismissed in quick succession, and Kumar Sangakkara didn't even last more than a minute as he edged a delivery off Jermaine Lawson for a duck off just 1 ball. Mahela (41*), Thilan (58), and Dilshan (32*) batted with a lot of flair to seal victory quickly and efficiently and made sure there were no further "issues"!
Best Moments of the 150th Test Match for me:
* Vaas' excellent swing bowling with which he trapped more than 6 WI batsman "PLUMB-LBW"
* Vaas' batting exploits which saved our face, and which was very beautiful to watch
* Muralitharan's 6 Wicket haul, always wonderful seeing him in full form!
* Jayawardene's "come-back to form" ... his innings of 41 Not Out was pure class!
* Marvan and Sanath's cameo bashing in da 2nd Innings
So now its the 2nd and Final Test Match which will be starting on the 22nd of July at Asigirya Stadium, Kandy..
Lets hope we win that match as well, to win the series 2-0! 6月25日 Australia's Sudden DownfallIn a week that witnessed arguably the biggest upset of all time, Australia were left groping for answers as they stumbled to four successive defeats on their historic Ashes tour. After "laughing off" their crushing defeat against England in the Twenty20 game, Australia were humbled by Somerset, despite amassing 342, as Sanath Jayasuriya and Graham Smith opened the innings for Somerset and thrashed the Aussies like it was a "Sunday Afternoon Village Game" both getting Centuries with strike rates above 100, and then the aussies were stunned by Bangladesh, despite getting the toss advantage, and outplayed by England in what turned out to be an agonising seven days for a team that has steamrolled opposition for more than a decade. Well all credit to Dav Whatmore, as he has once again brought a Zero Team to being a Hero Team at least for one day in their lives!!!!!! Bangladesh has always been the nation that was used as a 'practice session' for all other teams, it was considered a good warm up, for the major games ahead.... England too, called Bangladesh up for a 2 test series, and dealt severe thrashings to them in the series, winning 2-Nill, and got their whole team, back in form before the Aussies arrived! In conclusion, Im sure the Aussies are now feeling a little better after beating England in last nite's day/night game. But still, Bangladesh beating them by 5 wickets will haunt them forever!!!! Well done Bangladesh!!!!! U guys have humiliated the world's best team, and the most hated team as well!!!!!! Lets hope we see more fun cricket like this in the future....... Remy u must be still so happy..... congrats again, buddy!!!! |
